Tour Overview

Step off the ferry at Waiheke Island and begin your journey along the twin headlands of Matiatia and Church Bay, where the natural beauty of the region unfolds with every step. This five-hour guided walk, led by an expert local guide, promises a thorough exploration of the island's stunning coastal and bush landscapes, making it a favorite among visitors who cherish active outdoor experiences.

The walk is divided into two distinct parts. The northern route, which can last about two hours depending on the pace, starts at Matiatia headland. As you trek towards Owhanake Bay, the path offers expansive views across the Hauraki Gulf, including sights of Great Barrier Island and the Coromandel Peninsula. This route is particularly rich in wildlife; keep your eyes peeled for sea birds and, with a bit of luck, you might glimpse orcas or dolphins near the coastline.

A midday stop at Oneroa Village provides a perfect pause. Here, you have the option to dine at local cafes or enjoy a picnic on the beach, savoring meals you've brought along or bought locally, surrounded by picturesque ocean views.

The southern route resumes post-lunch and takes you through Pio Rehutai Reserve and around the Church Bay headland. This section of the walk includes a passage through a captivating sculpture park nestled within a lush bush reserve. The trail weaves past secluded coves and impressive private homes, offering occasional vistas of Auckland's cityscape juxtaposed against the vast sea.

This experience is designed for those comfortable with walking hilly terrain over several hours. With group sizes limited to 12 to maintain a personal and immersive experience, early booking is essential to secure your place on this popular excursion.
