Tiritiri Matangi Island Discovery - from Auckland

Cruise across Tikapa Moana / the Hauraki Gulf to the open-sanctuary island of Tiritiri Matangi. Travelling on a premium ferry, you’ll enjoy an 80-minute crossing from Auckland Viaduct (or a 20-minute express from Gulf Harbour) before stepping ashore on a predator-free island that’s a haven for rare wildlife including kōkako, takahē, tīeke, and tuatara. Spend multiple hours exploring established walking tracks through native bush and along dramatic cliff tops, visit New Zealand’s oldest working lighthouse, or take an easy 10-minute stroll from the wharf to Hobbs Beach for a picnic or swim.

Choose your departure point and time: from the Viaduct on Wednesdays to Fridays (9:00am) and weekends (8:30am), or from Gulf Harbour on Wednesdays to Fridays (9:55am) and weekends (9:25am). Facilities include restrooms on board and air-conditioning; there’s no food or drink available on the island, so please bring a packed lunch (food must be sealed to protect the sanctuary). Return times from Tiritiri are 2:40pm on weekdays and 4:00pm on weekends. This experience is suitable for all fitness levels; public transport is nearby, and the trip starts and ends at the meeting point.
