Multi-day North Island journey via Hahei, Cathedral Cove, Rotorua and Taupo, with Wai-O-Tapu, Hot Water Beach, Raglan surf and Tongariro Crossing options.

Tour Overview

This multi day journey links some of the North Island’s best known coastal, geothermal and adventure regions in one trip. In the Coromandel, you travel to Hahei, the base for visiting Cathedral Cove, known as the filming location for the gateway to Narnia. Time here can be spent exploring the coast, with options to kayak or swim, before ending the day at Hot Water Beach.

The route continues to Rotorua, with a stop at Wai-O-Tapu, where geothermal activity has shaped a landscape of colourful pools and steaming features over thousands of years. In Rotorua, the focus shifts to choice. You can spend time among geothermal areas, try activities such as luging, zorbing or white water rafting, relax at spas, or walk in the ancient redwood forests. There is also the option to visit Mitai Maori Village for cultural performances, Māori traditions and a hangi meal.

Elsewhere on the tour, Raglan offers the chance to surf one of the world’s longest left hand breaks, while Taupo is geared toward adrenaline activities. For walkers, the Tongariro Crossing is another standout option. You can also choose to visit the Hobbiton Movie Set in the Waikato, where a guided tour takes you past Hobbit Holes, the Mill and the Green Dragon Inn.

What To Expect

Day 1 : Auckland to Coromandel

    Cathedral Cove Walk

    After a few scenic stops on the stunning drive to Coromandel Peninsula, we arrive into the coastal town of Hahei. Explore the Gateway to Narnia at Cathedral Cove, spend the afternoon kayaking or swimming in the turquoise waters then catch the sunset from the natural hot pools on Hot Water Beach.

Day 2 : Coromandel to Rotorua

    Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland

    Say goodbye to the Coromandel as we head to Rotorua. On the way, we stop at the Thermal Wonderland Wai-O-Tapu where you will discover a spectacular showcase of New Zealand’s most colourful and unique geothermal elements sculpted by thousands of years of geothermal activity.

Day 3 : Rotorua

    Rotorua

    Dive into a jam-packed day at the geothermal and cultural centre of New Zealand, Rotorua. Luging, zorbing, white water rafting, cultural performances or simply marvelling at the unique geothermal landscape; there’s heaps to do here! In the evening you'll have the option to visit the magical Mitai Maori Village. Here, you can learn and engage with Maori culture and traditions and enjoy a delicious hangi meal.

Day 4 : Rotorua to Taupo

    Hobbiton™ Movie Set Tours

    Join us and experience the real Middle-earth™ at the Hobbiton™ Movie Set, where, in the heart of the Waikato region, you can step into the lush pastures of the Shire™, as seen in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations, and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be fully guided around the 12-acre set; past Hobbit Holes™, the Mill, and into the world-famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you will be presented with a complimentary, exclusive Hobbit™ Southfarthing™ beverage to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure. Hobbiton truly is a must-see for any fan of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. This is an optional activity that can be opted for beautiful hikes and walks in the area. Your guide will be ale to inform you of the best spots and hiking trails.

    Next, you'll discover the thundering Huka Falls and its trout-filled rivers before we head for a sunset beer by the stunning Lake Taupo. In the evening, you can head out on the lake for an evening sailing cruise or try one of the fantastic local restaurants.

Day 5 : Taupo

    Explore the magnificent lake jetboating, sailing or from 15,000ft above. Fancy a hike? Spend the day conquering one of the best one-day walks in the world, Tongariro Crossing. Whatever you choose, you’ll be spoilt for choice in Taupō!

Day 6 : Taupo to Raglan (via Waitomo)

    The adventure continues to Waitomo, a town better known for what’s beneath it. Crawl, abseil, raft and squeeze your way through the dark abyss, lit only by the twinkling light of the glow worms above

Day 7 : Raglan to Auckland

    Raglan is New Zealand’s quintessential iconic laid-back surfer town. Home to one of the world’s longest left-hand breaks, you’ll have the chance to explore the rugged landscape, and unique black sand beach and catch a few waves

    Then we head back to Auckland where we’ll say our goodbyes, hug it out, and leave with stacks of great memories.
