Tour Overview

Step into a secret Auckland forest after dark and see glow worms in their natural habitat. After meeting your experienced guide, travel about 25 minutes by air-conditioned vehicle to a protected local bush reserve. Phones stay off (you may even be asked to wear a blindfold en route) to help preserve this exceptionally sensitive area.

Once your eyes adjust to the darkness, follow your guide by torch light on an easy, flat bush walk of around 30 minutes. Move quietly past running water and through native forest alive with the soft glow of a thriving colony. This unique, endemic species lights up like the night sky, magnificent, strange, and magical all at once. Group sizes are kept small, and great care is taken with where you tread and what you touch to keep the experience intimate and low-impact.

This approximately 1.5-hour experience includes transport in an air-conditioned vehicle and guiding; parking for your own vehicle in Auckland is not included. Public transport options are nearby, infant seats can be provided, and a moderate fitness level is recommended.

    Auckland

    We take a 25 minute car ride to a secret forest, in Auckland, to view the glow worms in their natural habitat. This is a unique experience to go visit and hang out with real life glow worms without even leaving the city. We go in small groups, we are very careful where we tread and what we touch, it’s an intimate and special experience every time. It is an easy 30 minute walk around a unique section of bush teeming with Glow Worms, led by your guide by torch light. You'll see glow worms and experience native New Zealand bush and it's wildlife by night.

We will meet you in the vehicle drop off/ pick up parking zone for the Ferry terminal. This is down the side of the building by the red gates. Address is 99 Quay street
