Tour Overview

See the highlights of Auckland’s west coast on a private tour designed to move at your pace. With no fixed rush, the day can be adjusted around your interests while still covering the key places listed in the itinerary.

Begin at the Arataki Visitor Centre, a welcoming introduction to Auckland’s western region. It serves as a gateway to the natural landscape of the area and offers insight into its cultural heritage. From there, visit Karekare Falls in the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park, near the village of Karekare, known as a filming location for The Piano. The falls are easily accessible and set within the rugged west coast environment.

The tour also includes the Mercer Bay Loop Track, which starts high above Piha and leads to Te Ahua headland, the site of an important Māori pā. This part of the day brings wide views along the west coast and a strong sense of the area’s geography and history.

At Piha, one of Auckland’s best-known black sand beaches, you’ll experience a defining part of the west coast. Located within the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park, Piha is popular with swimmers and surfers. This private tour requires a minimum of two people.
