Offered by Auckland Wildscape
Half-day Auckland west coast tour with Mount Eden, Arataki Visitor Centre, a rainforest waterfall, Mercer Bay Loop, and Piha’s black sand beach.
This half day tour explores Auckland’s west coast through volcanic viewpoints, native forest, and the black sand shoreline. The first or last stop can be changed on request, and Mount Eden is a key highlight, with wide views across Auckland and a strong sense of the city’s volcanic landscape. The tour also includes insights into Māori culture as part of the Mount Eden visit.
From there, continue to the Arataki Visitor Centre, where sweeping views open over the Waitākere Ranges and the Tasman Sea. A 12 minute immersive theatre presentation introduces the region’s landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage, adding useful context before heading further west.
A gentle walk through native rainforest leads to a waterfall hidden within the Waitākere Ranges. The pace then shifts to the coast at Mercer Bay Loop, where dramatic cliffside views reveal the rugged edge of the west coast and the force of the Tasman Sea.
The tour finishes with time at Piha, Auckland’s well known black sand beach. Here you can walk the beach, take in the surf conditions, and see Lion Rock rising from the shoreline. If requested and time permits, there may also be an optional photo stop at the Auckland Harbour Bridge for harbour views.
