Tour Overview

Embark on a journey through the rich history and lush landscapes of New Zealand's Karangahake Gorge on a meticulously crafted ebike tour. Starting with a convenient pickup in Auckland, you'll travel in an air-conditioned shuttle van through the rolling farmland of the Waikato region, setting the stage for the adventure ahead.

Your first major stop is Waikino, where history comes alive at the Waikino Gold museum. Here, you can explore the remnants of historic gold processing equipment and venture into the underground kilns where gold ore was once processed. After delving into the past, enjoy a peaceful lunch by the river, surrounded by the natural beauty of the domain-like grounds.

The journey continues with a ride along the 14km trail from Waikino to Waihi, tracing the path of miners during the frenetic gold rush era. This trail is not just a path, but a narrative of yesteryears, lined with remarkable features and scenic sights that tell tales of a bygone era. For those interested in further historical exploration, the option to take a 45-minute train ride from Waikino to Waihi offers an additional glimpse into the region's mining heritage.

One of the tour's highlights is a guided ride around the Martha Gold Mine pit in Waihi. Here, you can gaze into the vast crater , a testament to both human endeavor and the power of nature. The tour also offers a serene ride through a bush-clad section of the gorge, including a historic rail bridge and a 1200m long tunnel, originally constructed in 1903 for the gold train.

Concluding in Paeroa, famously known as the home of New Zealand's beloved Lemon and Paeroa soda, the tour encapsulates a unique blend of cultural heritage and natural splendor.
