Small-group guided day trip from Auckland to the Coromandel Peninsula, with time at Cathedral Cove and possible stops at Cooks Beach or Tairua.

Tour Overview

Travel from Auckland on a small group, fully guided day trip to the Coromandel Peninsula, with time built in to explore without feeling rushed. As you leave New Zealand’s largest city, your guide shares local insights and points out key landmarks, setting up the day ahead.

The route heads south through the Waikato countryside, known here as the world’s most extensive farming region. Along the way, you’ll pass rivers, mountains, and open rural scenery before entering the Coromandel Peninsula, where white sand beaches and native forest shape the landscape. Several scenic stops break up the drive, with short walks and chances to take in the changing views.

A highlight of the day is Cathedral Cove, one of New Zealand’s best known natural landmarks. The walk in takes around 30 to 45 minutes and leads to coastal views and time at the beach. If you prefer, there is also an optional boat tour at additional cost for a different view from the water.

In the afternoon, the route depends on the day and conditions. Your guide may take you to Te Pare, Cooks Beach, or Lonely Bay, with possible views from Mt Paku or a visit to Tairua, before the return journey to Auckland.
